Since 1948, Denville Community Church, located in Morris County, has been providing a comprehensive and nurturing school environment for children of all faiths. As an extension of our United Methodist Church, our children receive a refined social learning experience grounded in current child development theory and practice. Many of our children had parents and grandparents who were enriched by our program when they were little!
Our NJ nursery school is unique in several ways:
- Our education facility is not a daycare center
- Our sessions are shorter, not full-day
- Our schedule includes flexible day and weekly programs
- Our school offers optional academic enrichment classes

Academics are an important part of our curriculum, and are taught in a nurturing learning environment. Each child progresses at their own pace, under the direct guidance of qualified, experienced and dedicated teachers.
Community service projects, field trips and classroom visitors enhance our developmentally comprehensive curriculum. These programs help provide the children with a greater understanding of their community and the world around them.
Our focus is on helping children build positive behaviors. Listening and following directions are two of the most important skills a child can learn. These skills help provide a strong learning base, which is instrumental in helping a child succeed in pre-school and beyond.
The teachers at DCCPS teach the children self-discipline through their own positive example:
They demonstrate an understanding of a child's feelings by helping the child to verbalize them. . ."I know you are sad that mommy is leaving, but she loves you and will come back to get you soon."
They model desirable behavior for the children by setting the example. . . "Please hand me the truck."
They emphasis what a child should do rather than what a child should not do. . . "When you are angry, tell Susie by using your words, instead of your hands."
They praise a child for desirable behavior. . . "I like the way you are sharing the book with Johnny."
They offer alternatives to undesirable behavior . . . "You are having a hard time playing with the blocks today, lets go over to the puzzle area and see if we can find one to make."
They remind children of the classroom rules in a positive manner. . . "Please use your inside voices in the classroom."
When a child has a physical or emotional outburst, we provide supervised comfort and privacy. This allows a child time to regain their composure while insuring the safety of the other children.
When a child continues to behave in an inappropriate manner, the staff will work together with the parents to find a resolution to the problem. This will be done keeping the best interest of the individual child as well as the entire class in mind.
